E.G. Smith Announces Plans to Build New Headquarters in Sinking Spring

E.G. Smith Inc. announced today it will build a facility on two acres at 1 Corporate Blvd. in Sinking Spring. The company’s new headquarters will include 3,000 square feet of office space and 4,000 square feet of warehouse and garage space to house the company’s vehicle fleet. The company will hold an official groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, May 20.

E.G. Smith offers heating oil, propane, full HVAC service, and other energy services to thousands of residential and commercial customers in Berks County.

New construction will begin in late May, with a targeted completion date of this fall, according to Michael DeBerdine, III, CEO of the Rhoads Energy Family of Companies, the corporate parent of E.G. Smith.

“The company has been experiencing growth for the past several years, and during that time we have been weighing our options for an upgraded facility,” DeBerdine said. “When we found an ideal location that will enable us to better serve our customers, we started the development process almost immediately.”

Though the new building will sit less than three miles from E.G. Smith’s current location on Penn Avenue in West Lawn, it offers significant advantages.

The company will move its 30,000 gallon propane tank to the site, consolidating infrastructure and streamlining delivery to residential, commercial and agricultural customers. The new location is also close to E.G. Smith’s filling source for heating oil, enabling more efficient wintertime delivery. Finally, the expansion enables the company to stock more equipment and better care for its vehicle fleet.

Benchmark Construction Company will manage construction of the new facility.  Stackhouse Bensinger Inc. performed land planning services for the project, and Providence Engineering Corp. handled design.
