The Pennsylvania Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps low-income households pay for heating bills through energy assistance grants and crisis grants.
Eligible households could receive grants of $200-$1000 to help with heating costs. The 2020-2021 program opens on November 1, 2020 and is scheduled to close on April 9, 2021. There are three ways to apply for LIHEAP: online application, paper application or in person. Visit the LIHEAP Benefit Amount Table to see how much help your household could receive. The income requirements start at $19,140 for a 1-person household. There are two types of LIHEAP grants available.
LIHEAP Cash Grants vary from $200 to $1000 based on household size, region, income and fuel type. A household is eligible for only one regular LIHEAP grant per heating season.
LIHEAP Crisis Grants are authorized by the County Assistance Office to prevent a household from being without heat. The crisis grant maximum for the season is $800.
For more information or to apply, visit the LIHEAP Heating Assistance page or call the LIHEAP hotline at 866-857-7095, Monday through Friday.
