Our roots began in Quarryville in 1917 when Jerome H. Rhoads began selling kerosene from the back of a rail car. Today, Rhoads Energy has grown to become a family of companies that offers a variety of products and services to meet the needs of our customers as a full-service energy provider.

100 years later, Rhoads Energy continues to stay true to Mr. Rhoads’ legacy where our employees and customers are the foundation of our locally-owned and family operated business.

1917

Jerome H. Rhoads started the company and began selling kerosene from the back of a railcar

1926

Mr. Rhoads purchased a building, previously referred to as the Washington House and opened Hotel Rhoads. As soon as Mr. Rhoads took ownership of the building, he provided a room to the Quarryville Legion boys to hold their meetings. He also allowed the Lions Club to bring the State Police to town by establishing a “permanent substation” inside the hotel and installed a telephone for their use.

1932

A fire occurred at the “Rhoads Hotel” that badly damaged the building and the only item that could be salvaged from the wreckage was a marble soda fountain. The total loss of the building was estimated at $17,000. Mr. Rhoads never questioned rebuilding and less than 2 months the remnants of the old “Rhoads Hotel” were torn down.

1933

The restaurant re-opened in a Spanish-style building and was named “The Spanish Tavern.” Locals objected to the word “tavern”, and the name was changed to the Rhoads Restaurant. The restaurant was closed in 1999 and the property was sold.

1957

Company incorporated and officially named Jerome H. Rhoads, Inc.

1998

Expanded into commercial fueling by acquiring Harrisburg & Lemoyne Pacific Pride locations

1999

Restaurant closed. It was the oldest restaurant in southern Lancaster County, according to the Solanco Heritage Book.

The company’s name was changed from Jerome H. Rhoads Inc., to Rhoads Energy to include expanded product offerings and services as a full-service energy company.

2003

Acquired Zeke’s Oil, based in Chester County

2007

Acquired Acker Fuels (originally based in Gap, PA)

2009

Acquired EG Smith Inc & Boyertown Oil, which expanded reach into Berks County and western Montgomery County

2010

Acquired Natural Gas PUC license to provide gas service in Pennsylvania

2012

Introduced Lancaster Chamber Fleet Fueling Program in partnership with Turkey Hill Minit Markets

2013

Acquired Atlas Oil in Pottstown, PA

2014

Acquired F.W. Reifsnyder Propane in Temple, PA.

2015

Acquired Vincent R. Boltz. Expanded the company’s footprint into Lebanon County.

Sold 1,000,000 million gallons through the Lancaster Chamber Fleet Fueling Program.

2016

Built a new office and warehouse for the E.G. Smith division in Sinking Spring, PA

Acquired the heating and cooling division of Berks Products

2018

Acquired assets of former Worley & Obetz business

2019

Renovated warehouse into new Corporate Headquarters and Training Center located at 205 Hazel Street, Lancaster

Acquired George H. Blouch Fuel, based in Lebanon and merged with Vincent R. Boltz

Acquired Aulenbach & Sons, based in Birdsboro

2020

Acquired Mack Services Group, based in Malvern, rebranded as Mack Energy and expanded footprint into the Main Line area

Opened new satellite office in Parkesburg

Launched new online portal and mobile app

Announced creation of the Rhoads Energy Veterans Fund

2021

Acquired Reilly & Sons, Inc., based in Exton

Opened our ninth Pacific Pride fuel station in Exton

Introduced our new service group, Cool Crew

Transitioned Vincent R. Boltz division into Rhoads Energy, to streamline operations for our customers, maintain lower costs, and consolidate our team under one umbrella.
